Grain Millers Flaked Oats are a premium, pre-gelatinized brewing adjunct that can be added directly to the mash without a separate cereal cook. These oats are essential for enhancing the creamy mouthfeel and body of Stouts, Porters, and Hazy NEIPAs. High in beta-glucans and proteins, they contribute a distinct “silky” texture and significantly improve head retention. This 10 lb bag is the ideal size for homebrewers producing multiple 5-gallon batches or a single high-gravity stout.
Brewery Mash Tip: Use flaked oats at 5-20% of the total grist. Because oats are high in beta-glucans, they can make the mash “gummy.” If using a high percentage, we recommend adding rice hulls to your mash to ensures a smooth sparge and prevent a stuck mash. Mash at 150-152°F (65-66°C) for the best balance of sugar extraction and mouthfeel.
